November’s Album Releases

Aaaand I’m back. Can I just say: it turns out blogging about music without a consistent/reliable Internet connection is pretty hard to do. Hurricane Sandy did a number on my Internet provider so it was a very long 12 days until my connection finally returned. Hope all of you fellow east coasters are returning to your normal routines like I slowly am. We’ve got a bunch of new music this month from artists like Crystal Castles, One Direction, Christina Aguilera, and Rihanna. Click on to listen to the latest and more:

End The Cycle of Domestic Abuse with mark. m.powerment

Can you spot domestic abuse when you see it? Not all domestic abuse is visible. It’s not always as obvious as we’d assume it to be, and not every victim gets as much attention as Chris Brown and Rihanna. Domestic violence includes physical, sexual, mental, and financial abuse and can affect absolutely anyone. Studies actually show that 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime– and that’s not okay. If you know someone in an abusive relationship, please direct them toward the help hotline at thehotline.org. Check out our guide to see how you can help erase abuse with mark. Cosmetics’s m.powerment campaign. Continue Reading »

God’s Love We Deliver: New York City

Being in New York and New Jersey right now as teams of volunteers are pitching in to help clean up and provide food and shelter for those affected by Hurricane Sandy (thank you!), I’m reminded more than ever of groups that put this much effort into helping people get much needed nutrition all year round. I’d like to put the spotlight on God’s Love We Deliver, an amazing organization constantly operating in and around New York City. This group delivers high quality, nutrition-packed meals to NYC residents living with serious illnesses who might not otherwise be able to provide these healthy meals for themselves. My Unexpected Hurricane Survival Guide

As Hurricane Sandy roared outside, I tried my absolute best to stay positive and upbeat. I decided to take the statewide lack of power as an opportunity to test out new products and see which ones I’d love: even if I wasn’t forced to use them. Like how my family found out that we actually really like spaghetti made with Campbell’s Fiesta Nacho Cheese soup as sauce, even if it wasn’t the only dented can Target had left post-storm. (It reminds me of Hard Rock Cafe’s Twisted Mac & Cheese sauce, a personal fave!) Check out my unexpected hurricane helpers and let us know how you fared the storm! Continue Reading »

A Beauty Review: Lancome Teint Miracle Instant Retouch Pen

LANCÔME Teint Miracle Instant Retouch Pen ($29.50)
Oil-free liquid concealer in a pump pen.

I’m not ever really a fan of these pump pens, whether it’s for a concealer or a lip gloss or anything.  I don’t like waiting for the product to ooze out of the brush, and I don’t like that I can’t really clean the brush without wasting product.

See if I thought this one was any different!

Manicure Monday: Halloweenified

With Halloween coming up, I wanted to make sure this week’s Manicure Monday was spooky! Whether you dress up in full costume for Halloween or not, nail art is a great way to celebrate the holiday.  It’s a simple statement that can make a big impact.  And with Halloween, there are so many different designs you can create!  Ghosts and black cats for those who like something a little scary, pumpkins and candy corn for those who love the sweet side of the holiday – or spider webs and drops of blood! Want to see how I got the look? Read on!

Zombie Repellent Soap: Rocky Mountain Soap Company

I always imagined that zombies would hate cleanliness. I’m a fan of zombie movies, and those guys never seem to take baths. So when I came across this Zombie Repellent Soap, I was surprised to learn that it smells like fennel and star anise: the true scents that zombies hate. If you’re in the mood for some cheeky Halloween beauty (or, you know, you’re legitimately afraid of impending zombie attacks,) check out this fun treat from Rocky Mountain Soap Company. The soap smells like black and red licorice, the grown up way to participate in Halloween candy goodness. Bonus: it’s not just a novelty gift item! Every soap from this Canadian brand is 100% natural and great for your skin. It’s a total “no-brainer!”
