Davids Tea: Warm Up With a Custom Cup

I absolutely love tea. My mugs are constantly being filled, refilled, and topped off with steamy, leafy goodness. Davids Tea is my new gem of a discovery. Walking down 21st St. in Manhattan this morning, I stumbled across a Davids Tea that was handing out shot glasses full of hot peppermint tea samples. Impromptu midday shots on the street isn’t a lifestyle I thought I could get behind, but I’m glad I stopped for a sip! This Canadian brand is seeping across the globe, so here’s everything you need to know. Continue Reading »

Chocolate and Peanut Butter? Yes.

When I’m not sure what to get a friend for a birthday or special occasion, that’s when I’m glad that I have a certain set of skills to my advantage. By this I mean that I’m able to go on to allrecipes.com (my absolute go-to site for quick and delicious kitchen tested recipes) and find something perfect. This week I made a whipped peanut butter pie for a birthday party and it was a great combination of flavors, a cinch to make, and it didn’t break the bank! So go one and check out this recipe! Trust me, it’s pretty tasty.

Enlightened: (Seriously) Good-For-You Ice Cream

A couple weeks ago, I got to cover backstage beauty at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for work. (I know, right? I’m still giddy.) Among all the questions my friends asked me about the experience were 1] Are the models as pretty in person? (Yes!) 2] Are they really as skinny in person? (Yes!) and 3] What were the models eating backstage? (Ice cream!) Wait. Back up a second… ice cream? Victoria’s Secret models?! Believe it. Enlightened ice cream bars. If they’re good enough for models to snack on, you better bet I was first in line to check out these sweet (and healthy!) treats. You’ll have to wait until December 4 to watch the runway show, but you can read about these amazing ice cream bars right now.  Continue Reading »

Bandcamp: Name Your Price on Music Downloads

Bandcamp is a website where artists can sell their music and merchandise directly to their fans. Seems common enough, yeah? But what sets them apart is the ability for artists to provide a name-your-price option for their music. According to the website, “On name-your-price albums, fans pay an average of 50% more than the minimum.” Sounds pretty good for an independent artist just trying to make a buck.

I prefer going old school and buying physical CDs but a ton of today’s music is strictly distributed digitally. For many independent artists, shelling out money to manufacture CDs is an unnecessary expense in a digital age. Bandcamp is a great place to discover, buy, and download music. There are many albums on the website that have minimum or set prices so don’t be disappointed when you stumble upon music that’s more than $1!

I’ve scoured the website and picked a bunch of my name-your-price favorites. You can download them for free by typing in $0 when you check out, or pay as much as you want to support the artist. Please know that the music I listed below is not guaranteed to stay free forever because the artists can change their prices whenever they want to. Download away!

Henri Bendel’s New York City Trash Can

If there’s one thing never lacking in New York City, it’s the heaping, overflowing cans of trash. New York City Trash Mix from Henri Bendel is far from the gross messes you’re now imagining: it’s actually a clever, tasty treat that’s perfectly packaged in a fun tin trash bin for gifting. This can is (of course,) overflowing with tons of cereal bits, pretzels, and pecans– all covered in a rich white chocolate drizzle. The sweet and savory combination is a total hit: great for sharing around the office or as a thoughtful Secret Santa contribution. Enjoy!

Manicure Monday: Pretty & Polished

As anyone that knows me knows, nail polish is my favorite hobby, my favorite love, and maybe even my biggest vice. I have more nail polish than I really know what to do with, but I can’t help myself from buying more. I love finding new colors that I’ve never seen before, but that seems to happen less and less frequently. Until I discovered – thanks to my older sister – the homemade nail polish community. My new love? Pretty & Polished. Read on to learn more!

Listen: Owl City ft. Mark Hoppus, “Dementia”

Owl City and Mark Hoppus team up for this cool song, which can be found on Owl City’s latest album, “The Midsummer Station.”

Each time this song comes up on my iTunes, I find myself captivated. It showcases the talents and styles of both artists flawlessly- a real rarity among music collaborations that highlight one artist at the expense of another. The electronic undertone of all of Owl City’s songs completely meshes with Mark Hoppus’s distinct, brassy voice that we instantly recognize from Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves. Hear the song after the page break and let us know what you think! Continue Reading »

Man Of The Hour

I’ll let you in on one of my secrets: no matter how swamped I’ve ever been in one of my literature classes, I’ve always made time to read comic books. They keep my brain sane and entertained. I started reading comic books when I was 8 years old and found boxes of my mom’s old Archie comics in my grandpa’s attic: and I’ve been on the lookout for new titles ever since. So imagine my excitement at getting to review the debut issue of Man Of The Hour, from Dave Alluisi with art by Jesus Marquez. Read on to see what I thought! Continue Reading »

Bubbakoo’s Burritos: Point Pleasant, NJ

When I first set out to write my review of Bubbakoo’s Burritos, I only expected to rave about their amazing burritos. But since I began writing this post, the Jersey Shore locations were among those cities hit hardest during Hurricane Sandy. The chains of Bubbakoo’s are back up and running, but serving a new purpose in addition to their tasty menu: getting hot food to flood victims and those still without power. Read on to learn more about the relief efforts — and, of course, e-sample my favorite Bubbakoo’s picks!
