Fat Witch Bakery: Chelsea Market, New York City

Normally, I would advise you against using the terms “Fat Witch.” It’s not very nice. Except when you’re talking about Fat Witch brownies, which are very, VERY nice. Check out their awesome brownies and get our recommendations for what to pick up! Continue Reading »

Listen: Jessie Ware, “110%”

“110%” by Jessie Ware
Genre: pop soul/future garage
Jessie Ware sounds like: Lily Allen’s cool sister that blasted Sade in her bedroom all day and hung out with people like Goapele and Adele (who actually is a close friend of hers)
Worth checking out: “Running,” “Wildest Moments,” “Sweet Talk”…okay just listen to everything she’s ever done
The ideal setting to play “110%”: Blasting on your laptop in a room of people so you can show off that you know a cool song.

Jessie Ware might be a really unfamiliar name but she’s making a splash over in the UK right now. This London singer was just nominated for the Mercury Prize in September for her critically acclaimed debut album Devotion. Fans of future garage music will recognize her from SBTRKT’s “Right Thing To Do” and “Sanctuary” and remixes that Disclosure and Star Slinger have done of her songs. Read more, watch her picturesque music video for the single “110%,” and grab a free download of her cover of Bobby Caldwell’s classic “What You Won’t Do For Love”:

Manicure Monday: Feathery Accent

It’s Manicure Monday once again! I’ve been pulling a lot of inspiration from Pinterest for my manicures lately, whether it’s for the colors, the theme, or the actual design.  Ideas have to come from somewhere, and Pinterest is a great place to go for inspiration of any kind!  I’ve noticed a lot of manicures that incorporate feathers into their nail designs, and I absolutely love them.  The problem is that I don’t actually have any feathers (a lot of these designs include placing real feathers on your nail and using polish as an adhesive!).  With the help of Kiss Nail Art Paint and a bit of a steady hand, you can create your own feathery manicure! Read on to learn how.

Download this: 10 Songs For Fall

I haven’t done a playlist in a long time but the changing of the seasons here on the east coast made it imperative for me to put something together. When I think of music for the fall, a few things pop into my head: blankets and a warm drink, the sound of your coat zipping up, solitary car drives, stepping extra hard on fallen leaves…I could go on forever.

My biggest goal for this playlist was to not include anything from Bon Iver. That’s a strange goal but let me explain – they’re a staple fall/winter band for a ton of people so I wanted to offer some alternatives to that and all the typical melancholy, bummer songs. Nevertheless the playlist is still chock full of acoustic guitars and indie rock. Okay, enough talking; let’s get to listening:

The Running Playlist That Gets Me Moving

It has come to my attention that the sharing of workout playlists is absolutely unheard of. You could almost have better luck getting someone to hand over their social security number, Facebook password, and credit card than you would getting honest answers on what’s on their iPod. Why? It’s because most of the time, the songs that truly get you pumped are completely embarrassing. To prove that I’m completely un-embarrassable and spark some fun conversation, I’m sharing my go-to 5K race playlist. (Warning: it’s full of Hilary Duff and Fergie. No shame.) Continue Reading »

Hot Tools the Coolway

My hair is about as predictable as Honey Boo Boo on a live talk show interview: I know it’s going to do something crazy, I just never know what. I don’t even know what texture my hair is naturally, because it always looks different when I wake up. One morning, it’s Taylor Swift’s mane of ringlets and the next, it’s… uh, Taylor Swift’s straight hair. If you’ve had enough of my pop culture references and just want to hear what I thought about the Coolway system, one of the latest innovations in hair straightening, keep reading! Continue Reading »

Curio Road

The thing that I love about fashion is how much it changes.  To one person, only the most expensive designer products are fashionable.  Many people love national retailers.  Someone might fall in love with a piece from a thrift store, while someone else may hate the fact that someone else owned that necklace first.  I’m big on deals.  I’m always happier walking away with an awesome piece that didn’t cost me an arm and a leg.  I really think that anyone can buy designer labels.  Putting together something unique on a budget is a challenge – but it doesn’t have to be.  Enter Curio Road.

Shoesday Tuesday: Editors’ Favorites

When I was in high school, I had to wear a uniform.  Everyone had the same shirt, the same skirt (it was an all-girls’ school), and the same knee-highs.  The only way to show your sense of style was through your accessories and your shoes.  That experience really made me appreciate fashion in general, but especially shoes, more.  The shoes you wear can really make a statement about who you are, what your style is, and even what you like to do.

For today’s Shoesday Tuesday, we’re going to take a sneak peek into our editors’ personalities by looking at their favorite shoes.  Read on!
