Captivating Hot Messes: Bad Girls Club – Mexico

Some days there seems to be nothing to watch on TV. Whether you have 10 channels or 200 there inevitably comes a day when you’re flipping through for something to watch and absolutely nothing seems appealing. These are the days when you really just don’t feel like watching Top Gun for the 42nd time and Matrix Revolutions on TNT isn’t going to cut it.

This was the sad predicament I found myself in this past Labor Day. And since the pickings were depressingly slim I decided to check out a show I’ve never watched before but seemed to be the mindless entertainment I was looking for before the start of an extremely busy week: Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club – Mexico.

Style {r}evolution

The world of fashion is all about looks. The average consumer, including myself, goes shopping to find things that look good on him or her. The average consumer is thinking about colors, patterns, fits, and trends. The average consumer probably isn’t thinking about what has gone into making all of that.  The amount of chemicals, dyes, pesticides and fertilizers (yep!) that go into creating each garment is quite unbelievable.

Two girls, Shannon and Kristin, saw how damaging fashion can be to the environment and set out to change it.  Cue {r}evolution apparel, their sustainable clothing company.  Their signature item, the Versalette, uses 100% recycled materials for the fabric.  Everything from the fabric itself down to the label inside is made in America, using sustainable and environmentally-friendly ingredients.

This summer, they traveled across America to learn more about the fashion industry and promote the sustainable fashion movement.  With the help of filmmaker Steve Celano, they were able to document every step of the way.

Manicure Monday: Faux Claws

The thing I might love most about nail polish is how versatile it is.  You can take the same colors and apply them in different ways to get completely different manicures.  On the other hand, you could do the exact same design in different colors and get a different effect!  For example, a classic French manicure is girly and pretty.  If you do a French manicure with black and gold instead, you’ve got yourself a rocker chic look.  If you give two people the same polish and tell them to do whatever they want, you’ll probably end up with two different manicures.  What you do with your nails can represent you as a person, what style you want to rock, or even how you’re feeling on that particular day.

Today, I want my nails to make a bold statement, without a lot of work.  That’s exactly what I got with this Faux Claw manicure.  Even my dad saw my nails and said, “Wow, how did you do that?!”  For my dad to think my nails are cool, that probably means they’re pretty cool.  Read on to see how I got this Faux Claw look.

So You Think You Can Dance: ‘Top 8’ Music Highlights

A top 6 already?! This week’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance was, in a word, intense. The eliminations portion gets especially stressful and heartbreaking at this point of the competition so imagine my reaction when my favorite male dancer got voted off. It was a Yelling Fest. Thank goodness for the always funny Jesse Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family, who served as a guest judge and kept me thoroughly entertained throughout the night. But how was the music, you ask?

Chicken for Cheese and Mushroom Lovers!

Today I had a friend over for lunch and was inspired to whip out one of my go-to recipes for a quick and delicious meal. I’ve also made this as a special birthday dinner for my mother, so shout out to my mom! What I’m going to describe today is a no-fuss chicken the starts out in the frying pan and ends in the oven. Its comfort level is high, so be forewarned that after eating this chicken you’re going to have to take a nice long nap. It’s cheesy, covered in mushrooms and will keep you full for the rest of the afternoon. Continue Reading »

Cruelty-Free Beauty

Animal testing — for any reason — is one of the most controversial topics out there. It doesn’t always have to be political or extreme. Regardless of your involvement in the cause or your personal opinions on the matter, it’s always a good idea to be aware of what you’re buying and wearing! You may have noticed the small bunny logo popping up more and more often on the back of your favorite products. This is great progress all around. Chances are, if a brand isn’t testing on animals, it’s also free of chemicals that could be harming you. Read on for a list of our favorite cruelty-free companies! Your favorite brands may be on the list — or you can work to get them there. Continue Reading »
