The song that opened this year’s Emerson show started everything off with a great energy – I especially loved when the second model came out because she seemed to be completely in the moment. And how can you not be charmed by the song lyrics? “You’re from the ’70s, but I’m a ’90s bitch.” Seriously awesome. Emerson’s Jackie Fraser-Swan was inspired by ’70s horror movies Carrie and The Amityville Horror so lace, printed silks, and the colors of black, white, and red were abundant. New York Fashion Week Beauty: Backstage at Kate Spade Spring 2013

Jouer Makeup Artist Neil Scibelli adds false lashes to a model’s finished look.
Ever wonder what goes on backstage at a New York Fashion Week runway show? I always imagined it to be a flurry of stylists, false eyelashes, hairspray, and gorgeous models. Over this past week, I had the amazing privilege of covering behind-the-scenes beauty at some of my favorite designers’ runway shows: and I found out that my imagination was spot-on! I’ll be sharing my backstage pictures and findings over the next few days- or as soon as the craziness dies down. First up is the Kate Spade New York show, my very first NYFW experience! New York Fashion Week Music: Alexander Wang Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Playlist
Alexander Wang’s S/S 2013 collection consisted of androgynous models outfitted in loose silhouettes in a palette of black, white, and a little bit of tan. His pieces looked like they were cut by lasers and held together by air. The show was accompanied by a playlist of uptempo club songs, which I’m sure speaks to his cool kid clientele. Watch the runway show and see the playlist breakdown after the jump:
Manicure Monday: Neon Brights
Happy Manicure Monday, beauty lovers! I wanted today’s manicure to be fun and different. Something that looks difficult, but really isn’t. You can’t get a complicated-looking manicure using only one color (I don’t think!), so the key to this mani is using a lot of bright colors that stand out against each other. Love this look? Read on to see how to try it out yourself!
New York Fashion Week Music: Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Playlist
Rebecca Minkoff’s collection was inspired by photographer Slim Aaron’s work from the ’50s to the ’70s so she aimed to reflect her retro and modern looks in the music as well. DJ Cassidy and band Tennis performed on opposite sides of the runway as they provided the soundtrack for the show. I really dug how the music was done and I think you will, too – check out the show and a breakdown of the playlist:

Now, Target has teamed up with four awesome new boutiques that are sure to make you want to shop! Our EIC, Kristine, recently got to check out all the Shops before they launched at Fashion’s Night Out in NYC.

So You Think You Can Dance: ‘Top 6 Perform’ Music Highlights
I was amazed by last night’s performances! It was a fantastic mix of fun and emotional pieces. The added plus was guest judge Christina Applegate because as a dancer and fan of the show, she can actually form opinions and give substantial feedback (I can still remember when Carmen Electra judged last season and it was facepalm-inducing and hilarious – she literally had nothing to say for some performances). Anyway, the competition has been whittled down to the final four: Tiffany, Eliana, Cyrus, and Chehon. Here are some of the songs that piqued my interest last night:
Listen: Daley, “Remember Me” ft. Jessie J
The very talented 22 year old UK soul singer Daley has just dropped his first official debut single “Remember Me.” Daley got a lot of attention for his mixtape Those Who Wait (especially his brilliant collab with ex-Floetry singer Marsha Ambrosius on slow jam “Alone Together”) so this new song is pretty exciting. It was a smart move on his part to get some star power from Jessie J for this one. Download Those Who Wait for free and check out the funky bassline driven track “Remember Me” below.
