Manicure Monday: Gold Cross-Hatch

Manicure Monday: Golden Cross-Hatch via The Collabor-eightI’ve gotten inspiration for my Manicure Monday tutorials from my favorite clothes, from holidays, and even from just staring at my nail polish collection.  But I also get my inspiration from one of the most inspiring places of all – Pinterest! If you can browse Pinterest without getting inspired, you’re pretty tough.  I browse Pinterest and I suddenly think I’m Martha Stewart, Rachel Zoe, and Jillian Michaels all rolled into one.  I’m definitely not, but it does make you feel good to be inspired!  I saw this manicure on Pinterest and thought to myself “I can do that.” So I did! Read on to see how I got the look.  Spoiler alert: it’s easier than it looks!

A Beauty Review: Fusion Beauty Prime Results Primer

Fusion Beauty Prime Results Brightening Primer ($42)

Helps to even skin and prepare for makeup.

When I first started using this primer, I fell in love.  It left my skin with a smooth, velvety feeling.  It kept my makeup feeling fresh all day, and that was exactly what I was looking for in a primer.

But that is why I have to use things for a while before writing a review on them.

The Chefs Collaborative Cookbook

Sustainability. Growing and shopping locally. The health and economic benefits of organic produce. These are all red-hot topics and catchy buzzwords right now when you’re talking about food. Eating sustainably, shopping locally, and supporting local businesses can be a tricky equation when you’re not really educated on the “locavore” conversation. The Chefs Collaborative Cookbook makes it a little bit easier — combining everything that’s trendy in food talk right now with classic, regionally-specific recipes from across the United States. You know we love a good collaboration, especially when it’s providing a best-of overview! Continue Reading »

Manicure Monday: Ombre Graffiti

Manicure Monday: Ombre Graffiti via The Collabor-eightWhen it comes to creating nail art, there’s a lot of ways you can go about creating the look you want.  You can either invest in a professional manicure – or you can get creative.  Tape can help you get straight lines, a dotting tool (or even a bobbi pin or paper clip!) can create dots, and a really skinny brush and a steady hand will help with creating free-form designs.  Today’s manicure requires a bit of creativity and a straw – yes, a plastic drinking straw.  Read on to see how I got this ombre graffiti nail art!

A Beauty Review: mark. Min-a-Real Cream to Powder Foundation

mark. Min-a-Real Cream to Powder Foundation in Buff ($18)

A mineral foundation that goes on as a cream and dries to a powder.

After hearing rave reviews about this foundation, I knew I had to try it.  A number of people told me that this foundation is perfect because it gives great coverage without being cakey.  I absolutely had to try it for myself.  I’m not typically a fan of foundations – I’d much prefer a tinted moisturizer or BB cream.  Continue Reading »

Bouchra Jarrar Couture N˚8 Paris Fall 2013: Makeup Breakdown by NARS

There are so very few things about couture that makes anything feel relatable, wearable, or accessible. That’s what makes it couture. Artistic, innovative, and out of reach. So whenever I see something that is undeniably couture and as luxurious as it gets, but still looks like something you could rock in real life? Well, that’s just golden, isn’t it? My first thought upon seeing the makeup for the Bouchra Jarrar Couture show was, wow. My second thought was, wow, that actually looks like something I would want to wear in real life. If you love the look as much as I do, read on for the full product breakdown, straight from the NARS backstage team. Continue Reading »

Man of Steel

When I was growing up people would constantly compare Batman and Superman when discussing superheroes:
Who’s the best?
Who would win if they had a face-off?
Who’s ultimately more cool?

Since I love heroes who have a bit of darkness within them and have to challenge themselves (in meaningful ways) to overcome their darkness and character flaws to be the heroic figures they are, I always was Team Batman in these debates. I’ll spare you my list of comparisons between the two and focus on my reasons for not liking Superman…for the sake of brevity 😉 and then will get into why Man of Steel proved me so very, very wrong.

FEED USA x Target: Meals and Deals!

Just in time for the 4th of July, Target has officially debuted its latest design collaboration: a classic Americana lineup of vintage-feeling tees, housewares, men’s and women’s fashions, and accessories. The quality denim products and retro cookware are glorious, but even more so because the collaboration helps out FEED USA, an organization which donates meals to families across the United States. I picked up quite a few items from this launch — and I donated 84 meals along the way! Totally justifiable. I highly recommend that you head out to your local Target store (clad in dark wash skinny jeans: they’ll make everything you try on look fabulous) and check out the line. Read on for my top picks, must-haves, and super scores!  Continue Reading »
