Warby Parker, FashionABLE & Fashion Delivers: Philanthropic Fashion

Warby Parker Eyewear, Instagram

As a woman of fashion, I tend to spend a good bit of money on accessories and clothing. In order to make a positive impact in my world, I try to make purchases from companies that do charitable work or give portions of their profits to various philanthropies. When I spend money or make a donation, I want to make sure it goes toward doing the most good it possibly can. Although I am a firm believer that a single person can make a difference in the world, I have also observed that by working together we can make a greater impact. Because of this, I like to focus on partnering with philanthropic groups whose work I admire. Sometimes, I do this by purchasing items I want and need from companies that give back. Other times, I choose to give directly to a cause or organization. Check out my favorite ways to give back through fashion! Continue Reading »

Manicure Monday: Dreamcatcher

Manicure Monday: Dreamcatcher via The Collabor-EightSince last week’s Manicure Monday was dark and fierce, I wanted to go light and girly with this week’s.  I’ve always been impressed with dreamcatchers.  The premise of a dreamcatcher is that you hang it by your bed to catch any evil spirits or nightmares while you’re sleeping.  Whether they work or not is a totally different blog post.  I simply love the look of it.  You can create a dreamcatcher out of so many different materials, colors, and fabrics.  I created my very own dream catcher out of … what else? Nail polish.

A Beauty Review: It Cosmetics Anti-Aging Full Coverage SPF 50 CC+ Cream

It Cosmetics Anti-Aging Full Coverage Physical SPF 50 CC Cream, ($35)

I’ll be completely honest, the qualifier “full coverage” terrifies me. I mean, who wants to look like you’re wearing a mask of makeup?

Full coverage and lightweight aren’t terms that you’ll usually find together when you’re talking about foundations — and none of my drawer full of BB creams really cover anything. But this CC cream from It Cosmetics says it’s “Your Skin But Better” — and that I couldn’t resist.  Continue Reading »

Relish: An Adventure In Food, Style, and Everyday Fun

You probably know Daphne Oz as a co-host from ABC’s clever food-based talk show, The Chew. So you already probably know how awesome her recipes are, and that she frequently puts a new spin on old favorites. She frequently makes vegetarian and vegan-friendly meals, which I always appreciate. In her new book, Relish: An Adventure In Food, Style, and Everyday Fun, Daphne fuses all of our favorite topics — and teaches us how to relish our foods and the fun events that center around our creations!  Continue Reading »

Manicure Monday: Shark Week

Manicure Monday: Shark Week via The Collabor-eightI have to admit, when I sat down to start this manicure, Shark Week was the last thing on my mind.  In fact, I really don’t even like Shark Week – and I definitely don’t like sharks.  My goal was to sit down and create a DIY chalkboard nail art tutorial – but after a conversation about the upcoming Shark Week, I realized that now is a better time than any to show off your love (or hate?) for these underwater creatures.  Planning on embracing the feeding frenzy that is Shark Week? Read on to rock this shark-inspired manicure!

Concert Review: Cody Simpson at Barclays Center, Brooklyn 8/2/2013

If you’re over the age of 16 and teeny bopper beats aren’t your cup of tea, it may be really easy to write Cody Simpson off before you’ve ever really listened to one of his songs. At first glance, he’s just another good looking teenager with a voice and a guitar (and even though that’s nothing to complain about, we’re constantly being presented with a similar combination, and they can’t all be great, can they?) I was able to hear Cody perform live at the Justin Bieber Believe Tour’s Brooklyn stop — thanks to essence cosmetics — and I was seriously impressed.  Continue Reading »

Manicure Monday: Neon & Glitter

Manicure Monday: Neon & Glitter via The Collabor-eightThere’s bold manicures, and then there’s bold manicures.  When you combine Color Club’s neon and Essie’s glitter, you’re bound to get a pretty bold manicure look.  This week’s Manicure Monday features both fun glitter and bright neon.  This manicure is not for the faint of heart – it involves bold polishes, a lot of tape, a lot of time, and a lot of patience.  If you can overcome those obstacles, this manicure is definitely worth the effort. A Beauty Review: NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Spring Break (pictured in the middle) ($26)

Spring Break is a sheer nude pink.

As a lover of all things makeup, NARS has been a brand that I’m absolutely gaga over, but is pretty out of budget for me to buy on a regular basis.  When I got the opportunity to try NARS Larger than Life Lip Gloss, I jumped on it. Continue Reading »

Goose: The Outrageous Life & Times of a Football Guy

I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t know precisely why I picked up Super Bowl champ/ football commentator Tony Siragusa’s memoir. He grew up in Kenilworth, New Jersey: a town all of two blocks wide that directly borders my own hometown. So when his book came out, my town library set up a huge display highlighting his book: LOCAL AUTHOR! I love it. New Jersey journalists cling to local celebrities like socks in a dryer. There isn’t a game that goes by where Siragusa is commentator and somebody doesn’t mention his hometown. Jersey news? Other players? My dad? “He’s from Kenilworth, you know,” they’ll all brag. So after seeing The Goose’s book on display for a couple weeks, I finally decided to try it out: he’s from Kenilworth after all. Continue Reading »
