We’re all in a current state of Fashion Week frenzy.  While fall fashions are exploding in stores, spring fashions are gracing the runways in New York, Milan, and Paris.  Naturally, I get most excited about new trends in beauty, but I was honestly a little disappointed by the nail art I’ve seen from Fashion Week. Most of it seemed strangely simple, while some of it looked a little like a child’s art project.  Hope wasn’t completely lost – PRISM‘s nail art look from New York Fashion Week caught my eye, and I knew I had to recreate the look myself.

What struck me about this look was that it was oddly manicured yet natural at the same time.  The tips were meant to stand out, and that meant playing down the rest of the nail.  I’m not one to go base coat-less, so here’s how I got the look:

After filing, buffing, and all that good stuff, I applied one coat of Nail Tek II to keep my nails strong.  Knowing that I’d be using a glitter polish, I wanted to make sure I protected them before I attack them with nail polish remover later.

Now, this next step isn’t exactly necessary, but since my typical manicure routine includes base coat, two coats of color, any nail art, and then top coat, I wanted to keep with my routine.  But for this manicure, the “color” is actually clear.  So I applied an extra base coat – using Sally Hansen’s Complete Care Extra Moisturizing 4-in-1 Treatment as my “color.”  Again, totally unnecessary, but I did it anyway.

After letting all this clear polish dry completely, you can begin to create the nail art.  You’ll want it to be totally dry so you can work with the tape.  I used plain masking tape, and I taped off the tip of each finger in a V shape – essentially a French manicure that comes to a point.  Once your nails are taped off, you can paint the tip of each finger in a glittery bronze.  I used Butter London’s The Old Bill, a gorgeous coppery bronze.

The look that PRISM went for with this manicure was totally natural with a hint of glam, so to make this manicure a little more natural-looking, I used a coat of NYC’s Matte Me Crazy Mattifying Top Coat to get a clear, matte manicure.
