Manicure Monday: BCA Strength

Manicure Monday: BCA StrengthOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I plan on showing my support for the cause the best way I know how – with a manicure.  Last year, each of our editors painted our pinkies pink to show our support, and this year, I’m going all out – all pink everything.  Whether you try this look yourself or not, make sure to rock a pink manicure this month to raise hope and awareness.

Manicure Monday: BCA Strength via The Collabor-EightAfter prepping your nails (filing, buffing, base coat), apply two coats of your favorite pink nail polish to each nail except your ring finger.  I used Pink Friday from OPI‘s Nicki Minaj Collection for this manicure.  It’s the perfect bubblegum pink and one of my favorite colors.

Make sure that your base coat is completely dry before moving on, because, with any tape manicure, the tape will make a gloopy mess if you’re not careful.  Once your accent nail is totally dry (you just used a clear base coat, so it shouldn’t take too long), you can begin!

To create your accent nail, tape off the tip of your ring finger so you get a pointed French manicure, as displayed in the image to the right. Tape over the tips so you get a clean, pink V-shaped tip.  Wait a minute or so before removing the tape!

Creating the heart requires some skill.  Apply two dots of pink in the middle of your nail – these will be the top of the heart.  Then drag the polish down into a point that aligns with the center of your V-shaped tip.  You can clean it up with a toothpick or small, clean brush.  Since you don’t have another color underneath, you won’t smudge anything!

Allow a few minutes for your nail art to set before finishing with your favorite top coat! Our new favorite is Essie’s Good to Go.
