When Benefit announced their new They’re Real Push-Up Liner and said there was an opportunity to buy it before it hit stores, I couldn’t resist. I love makeup, I love makeup that’s supposed to make my life easier, and I loved the idea that it was exclusive. I was totally a victim of their marketing scheme, but it didn’t matter – I wanted They’re Real. And I got it.
They’re Real is the first gel liner pen with a flexible tip to help you get close to the lash line. The formula is long-wearing and waterproof. What’s not to love?
I have to admit, the pen didn’t glide as smoothly across my lash line as I was hoping. I think I was honestly expecting this magical cure-all that would make creating the perfect cat eye easier. Easier? Yes. Perfect? Not quite.
I’ve struggled with getting the right amount of product out of the tip so that the pen glides smoothly but doesn’t glob liner all over my lid. I can create a perfect line on the back of my hand, but when it comes to my lid, it does seem to get stuck on my lashes and I end up needing to go over it with a regular pencil or other gel liner.
What I do love, though, is the idea of it. I love that it’s a gel pen – the ease of a pen with the staying power of a gel. The formula is amazing and really does last all day. The pen is still much easier to work with than a pot of liner and a brush, so I plan on sticking it out and trying to master the Push-Up Liner.

Thanks for a honest assessment.
Of course! I wanted to love it so much because of all the great things everyone has been saying, but we didn’t love it nearly as much as we expected 😦
