Listen Live: Kimbra – ‘Cameo Lover’ (Live at Sing Sing Studios)

Kimbra – Cameo Lover
Genre: Alternative pop/soul
Sounds like: A combination of ‘50s pop and doo-wop with an indie rock twist
Worth checking out: Two Way Street (Live at Sing Sing Studios)
Video highlights: the moment you realize Kimbra’s vocal prowess when she sings the word ‘trouble’ at 0:24, the tambourine at 0:45, her bom-bom-boms at 3:19

Kimbra just might be the next big thing in the U.S., which is something I am both excited about and dreading (does that make me a hipster?). This 22-year-old New Zealander singer may or may not be known to you as the female vocals in Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Her voice is best described as explosive, jazzy, unpredictable, and AWESOME.

“Cameo Lover” is one of Kimbra’s tracks from her debut album Vows, which has been a big hit in Australia and New Zealand. Keep an eye out when the album drops here in the U.S. on May 22.

About Camille G.

Camille's passion for music began at the advent of the very illegal Napster, which she maaay or may not have used at the time. This interest made a natural progression into learning and teaching herself how to play various instruments for fun. Due to a lack of actual talent and the desire for job predictability, she graduated from Seton Hall University in nursing. When she has time off from her job as a registered nurse in NJ, she enjoys digging through the internet for new things to listen to. Sharing her discoveries and favorite songs with friends through mix CDs, playlists, blogs, and parties is the part of the music experience she enjoys the most, so this is a great opportunity for her to do just that.
