Nicole by OPI’s Modern Family Collection

If you’ve seen even five minutes of an episode of Modern Family, you know that the show features a colorful cast of characters. So is it really all that surprising that each character is getting their own artistic interpretation — in the form of nail polish? Read on to see the latest line from Nicole by OPI, available now.

So, has your favorite character’s persona been captured? I think the most spot-on matches are Lily’s sparkling pink star glitter and Gloria’s two (two!) moody purple shades. (I wonder what Luke thinks of this mildly masculine glitter combo.)

This huge collection of fourteen distinct shades looks all over the place at first glance: delicate pinks, masculine blues, chromes, pastels, and glitters are all competing for our attention. It’s definitely the least cohesive collection that I have seen from any of OPI’s projects. There still seems to be a color option for any girl in this set. Even if you may not be shopping the entire collection on this launch, there is bound to be at least one or two polishes on your radar.

My own favorites for the Spring 2013 season include the steely My Jay Or The Highway! and mellow Alex By The Books. These shades could easily become your new neutrals, without sacrificing any of your style’s personality. The metallic chrome shades seem a little intense for colors that are meant to transition into spring, but the color choices themselves are diverse and interesting — quite like the cast!

Television shows are having a huge moment in nail polish collaborations right now, and this is definitely a fun — if slightly off-kilter — one. The launch leaves me with a lot of questions: why now, after 4 successful seasons of the show? Why go so ambitious as to try to capture so many characters at once? And why so many variations in texture? I guess, like family, you can’t please everyone!
